The Rev. Albert George Dykeman, 90, of Jackson died June 22, 2022. He was born the youngest of four boys on Feb. 14, 1932, to the late George Raymond and Flossie (Ellis) Dykeman in Poughkeepsie, NY.
While serving as a radar instructor at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., during the Korean War, he chose to leave the military and follow the call to share the Good News of the Lord. A graduate of Howard Payne University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Bro. Al, as he was affectionately known, served as a pastor for 62 years at churches in West Bend, Opelika, Mobile, Salitpa, Selmont, Frankville; Temple, Texas; Millry and Carrville; New Orleans, La.; Montpelier, Miss.; and Glen Cove, Texas.
While serving as pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church in Opelika, he taught in the Samford University Extension program. He retired from full-time ministry in October 2017 from West Bend Baptist Church in West Bend, Ala.
He is survived by his daughter, Gina Dykeman; wife, Jeraline Chance; additional family members, Sheila (John) Marcet, Donna (Jeff) Motes, Lisa (Albert) Andrews and William "Bobo" (Ann) Carter; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty J. Dykeman; brothers, Thomas Dykeman, Robert Dykeman and Calvin Dykeman.
Visitation will take place Saturday, June 25, 2022, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson, Ala. Funeral service will be Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., at Lathan Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Paul McLendon will be officiating, and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow in River Hill Baptist Cemetery, Salitpa.
Pallbearers will be Bill Taylor, Gerard Segreti, T.J. Motes, Tyler Motes, Hunter Carter, Zach Motes, Chris Weaver and Kyle Atchison.
