Annie Clarice Gates, 92, of Grove Hill, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at her home. She was a native of Clarke County, the daughter o Thomas Goodwin and Mattie Kinman Goodwin.
She held many jobs in her lifetime, but her most treasured time was spend as a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking. She also loved people and spent most of her life serving and praying for others. She was an active member of Grace Baptist Church where she was loved and admired by all.
She is survived by her only child, Betty Kilpatrick of Grove Hill; devoted son-in-law, Grady Kilpatrick of Grove Hill; granddaughters, Ronda Kilpatrick of Satsuma, Sonja Klopfenstein (Pete) of Oviedo, Fla.; four precious great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Bertie Lee Goodwin of Grove Hill, Gloria Goodwin of Palatka, Fla., Jeanette Harville of Pensacola, Fla. and Gean Taylor of Jackson; many nieces and nephews, as well as special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James M. Gates; siblings, Marvin Goodwin, Earl Goodwin, Etta Dumas, T.J. Goodwin and Garry Goodwin.
She will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love will live on through the lives she has touched.
The service was conducted at Grace Baptist Church July 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. with the Revs. Jimmy Simpkins and Johnny Kendrick officiating. Special music was provided by Sharon Lankford and Murphy Clarke. Interment was at Magnolia Cemetery in Grove Hill with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Active pallbearers were Pete Klopfenstein, Mike McDonald, Josh McDonald, Gerry McLendon, Charles Hickson and Neil Bush.
