Arnold E. Smith, 98, of Jackson, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at Jackson Health Care Facility. He was born in Clarke County on January 21, 1923 to Jessie Smith and Lilly Bolen Smith. A proud WWII U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he was one of the first to take the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. where his service was acknowledged. He owned and operated Smith Jewelry Store in Jackson for many years and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Jackson. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, yard work, gardening, reading, travel and tending his prized blueberry bushes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Marvel Smith, Nell Smith and several siblings.
He is survived by his children, Nancy (Percy) Harris, Dwight (Sonya) Dunn, Kay (Dwain) Odom; grandchildren, Hunter Harris, Haleigh Harris, Hannah (Matt) Jackson, Joshua (Heather) Dunn, Kristin (Bucky) Donald, Jon (Shannon) Odom, Holly (Rodney) McCain, Eric (Casey) Odom; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Wimberly and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with the Rev. Brian Jemison officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Dunn, Matt Jackson, Rodney McCain, Eric Odom and Jon Odom.
Bucky Donald will be an honorary pallbearer.
