Auburn W. Martin Jr., 77, passed away on August 24, 2023, at Providence Hospital in Mobile. He was born on August 7, 1946, in Stockton, AL to parents Auburn William and Eunice Thompson Martin Sr.. Mr. Martin graduated from Baldwin Co. High School and with some opportunities working at Bill's Dollar Store he made his way to Jackson, where he also owned several successful businesses throughout the years. Auburn met his wife Bernice Skinner Martin at a wedding, and they chose to rear their family in Jackson. Mr. Martin was always busy with his own endeavors, he enjoyed driving the school bus for over 13 years and volunteered his time to coach Youth Dixie League Baseball. He loved spending time with his family and provided a loving home for them. He was a member of Rockville Baptist Church for over 45 years.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Survived by his wife of 55 years Bernice Martin, children Tremaine (Tracy) Martin, Jennifer (Jeremy) Watford, Paige (Scott) Smith, grandchildren Trey Martin, Anna Caroline Martin, Elizabeth Martin, J.R. (Bayleigh) Kelley, Luke Kelley, Ashley Smith, and Lexi Smith, great granddaughter Mary Catherine Kelley, sister Susan (Pete) Burger, and many extended family and loving friends.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Watford, Scott Smith, J.R. Kelley, Luke Kelley, Tre Martin, and James Cunningham.
Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday August 27, 2023, at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson and on Monday August 28, 2023, from 9:30 am to 10 am with the service to follow at Rockville Baptist Church. Burial will be at Rockville Baptist Church Cemetery and Bro. Mark Dunn and Bro. Mike Ballard officiating with Lathan Funeral Home Directing.
