Barbara M. Whitehead, 72, of Jackson, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, at Ascension Providence Hospital in Mobile. She was born in Pewee Valley, KY to Robert Walker Maddox, Jr. and Mary Francis Burnett Maddox, both of whom preceded her in death. A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson and the Wesley Bible Class, she enjoyed sewing for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She did beautiful french hand sewing for the grandchildren's Christening gowns which are still being used and loved painting China.
She was active in the Quilt Guild in Opp and made numerous quilts for family and friends. She also crocheted and did many other crafts. Prior to retirement, she was the longest serving employee at Power South in Leroy, serving as the administrative assistant to the plant manager for 43 years.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Michael E. Whitehead; children, Michael (Jessica) Whitehead, Jr., Cammie (Michael Jr.) Breedlove; grandchildren, Logan (Alana) Breedlove, Jordan (Kyle) Bailey, Maggie (Dr. Sawyer) Donald, Mallory Whitehead, Walker Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Averiett Elise Breedlove, Mary Hayes Breedlove, Charlotte Ray Donald; brother, Robert Walker (Lynda) Maddox III, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Jackson with Drs. Brian Jemison and Ralph Wooten officiating. Drs. Chris Kelsey and Brian Jemison are soloists. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and interment will follow the service at Gainestown United Methodist Church Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Logan Breedlove, Andy Boykin, Chris Carr, David Maddox, Walt Rotch and Walker Whitehead.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to First United Methodist Church of Jackson or First Baptist Church of Jackson.
