Barney L. Turner, 80, of Chatom, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Chatom on Tuesday, March 4, 1941. A member of Springbank Baptist Church in Chatom, he had been active in several area churches where he had served as the music director. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed turkey and deer hunting as well as gardening and planting trees, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his cherished family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bruce Turner, Lillie Carpenter Turner; daughter, Marla Belue Warr and brothers, Keith Turner, Wayne Turner and Wilson Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Turner; children, Monica Stanley, Jarrett (Kandise) Turner; grandchildren, John Lamb, Jennifer Lamb (Demetri) Durant, Joseph (Constaleen) Lamb, Sarah (Jacob) Lord, Mason Turner, Madyson Turner; great-grandchildren, Kane Lamb, Luna Lamb, Maggie Grace Lord; brothers, Dr. Douglas (Sheila) Turner, Dr. Larry (Susan) Turner and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Revs. Mike Chatham and Rickey Revette officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the Turner Family Cemetery in Chatom with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Aaron Carpenter, Paul Faulkner, Zeb Faulkner, Larry Moss, Brandon Turner, Tracy Turner and Wayne Turner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Burnell Godwin, Henry Ross and Mason Turner.
