Benny Elvin Hodge, 69, of Gainestown, passed away July 2, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 24, 1948 to Elvin and Estelle Hodge. He was a retired vibration analyst with Boise Cascade and a member of Grace Chapel Church in Coffeeville. Although he enjoyed watching all football, he was an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but one of his favorite hobbies was sharing his love of gospel and country songs. He played several instruments and frequently sang in church, at the nursing home and even had a "Pickin Shed" at his home where friends would gather to play and sing for hours on end.
He was preceded in death by his parents and the mother of his children, Mary Hodge.
He is survived by his wife, Denise Gardner Hodge; children, Patrick (Angie) Hodge, Richard (Marcia) Hodge, Thomas (Sonja) Hodge, Haley Bradford, Hillary (Bo) Pugh, Tracy Hodge; brothers, John William (Sereda) Hodge, David Hodge (Annie); 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Grace Chapel Church Cemetery in Coffeeville with the Revs. Butch Starks and Renea Henderson officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Roger Fore, Marty Gardner, Bo Pugh, Stephen Hodge, Jason Hodge, Scott Childs and Charles Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
