Bettie Joan Stamey, 82, passed away on January 26, 2025, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Joan was born on March 9, 1942, to her parents Joeseph Wilburn Etheredge and Velma Ola Reeves Etheredge. Joan worked with Bell South until the company left Jackson; she then worked as a switchboard operator at Allied Paper Company which later became Boise Paper Mill. She was a wonderful mother of four children and one step son. Joan was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her family immensely and there wasn't anything she wouldn't do for them.
Joan loved to collect red birds and she was a huge Alabama Fan. "Can I get a Roll Tide!" She also loved to dress up and be "fancy". She always had her bling on! One of her favorite sayings was "Watch my smoke". Bettie Joan will be so dearly missed by her family and friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Camillia Miller; brothers, Buddy Etheredge, Randy Etheredge, James Willie Etheredge, and Larry Etheredge; her son, Joseph "Joey" Bozeman; and step grandson Joseph Tolbert.
She is survived by her daughter, Alice (Larry) Tolbert; beloved granddaughter, Joanna (Terry) Collins; sons, Jay (Debbie) Bozeman, and Ray Bozeman; stepson, Billy (Candy) Stamey, Jr.; grandchildren, Brittney Bozeman and Kyleigh (Jeffery) Brown; step grandchildren, Misty Brewer, Ron Moore, and Dylan Stamey; great grandchildren, Micah Collins, Malachi Collins and Baeleigh Brown; step great grandchildren, Stephen Barber, Addison Moore, Collins Moore and Beckett Stamey; sisters, Beverly Jean Young of Alaska, Alese (Jim) Barton of Jackson, and Sarah (Hadley) Foster of San Antonio, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins at 12:00 p.m. with Bro. Jimmie Butts officiating. Interment will follow in River Hill Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shawn White, Thomas Gibson, Kurt Shoultz, Alex Tolbert, Ron Moore, Ben Etheredge, and Byron Beverly.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dianne Beck, Frances Bouler, her nieces and nephews, Southern Care Hospice workers, and members of Union Grove Baptist Church.
