Betty Jean Bumpers Vann, 94, of Chatom, passed away on January 2, 2023. She was born on March 16, 1928, to Forrest Edward and Johnnie Keeble Cravey Bumpers. Ms. Betty was a graduate of the University of Montevallo with a degree in Education. She taught school for 34 years and is best known for teaching her business classes; accounting, shorthand, and typing. Additionally, she was the teacher sponsor of the Washington county newspaper, The Bulldog. Ms. Betty is known for her love of the color pink, her basket weaving skills, her kind and compassionate heart, her love of God, and she was a lady through and through.
Preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Edgar G. Vann, her siblings Bert (Hazel) Bumpers, Nell (Bill) Chance, Janie F. (Charles) Jordan.
Survived by her nieces and nephews, Marsha, Mike, Buddy, Sherri, and John, along with great nieces and great nephews Jarod, Chad, Timothy, Natalie, Brittni, as well as many other extended family and loving friends.
Pallbearers will be Larry Hubbard, John Raleigh Hubbard, Carlton Carpenter, Lee Carpenter, JJ Crouch, and Tony Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are Beverly Carpenter, Sheryl Hall, Donna Kay Tucker, Jessica Wolfenbarger, Valerie Loper, and Judy Carney.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Chatom Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to services. Dr. Robert Kirkland and Dr. Jerry Roberson officiating and Lathan Funeral Home conducting.
