Boykin Platt Turner, 92, died at his home on October 19, 2020 in Malcolm, Alabama. Mr. Turner was born on March 31, 1928 in Hawthorn, Alabama to his parents, William W. and Gertrude P. Turner. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He graduated from Leroy High School in 1949. He married Mary Florence Richardson from Frankville, Alabama. Boykin worked at Olin Chemical for 36 years at the McIntosh site. He was a patriarch, faithful member and Sunday school teacher at Malcolm Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He enjoyed fellowship with others in the community each month with a Christian Men’s Breakfast. He was always ready to serve others in his community. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He and others used their craft in wood work to remodel the church.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his son Danny, his brothers Emory Turner, John Turner, his sisters Jimmy Holand, Willie Mitchell. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife Mary Florence of 72 years of marriage, his son Ronny (Diana) Turner, his daughter Teresa (Jimmy) Upchurch, his grandchildren; Trey, Brandon, Daniel, Josh, great grandchildren; Dayton, Braxton, Payton, Brandon W., Ezra (Turner), Zane, Zeke (Upchurch).
Graveside services will be Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 11 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:30 at Malcolm Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jerry Presnall and Rev. Herbert Collier officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be; Eric Webb, Josh Upchurch, John Ike Atcheson, Todd Jernigan, Runt Keith, and Gene Taylor. Honorary pallbearers; Ricky Richardson, Ronnie Knapp, Any Webb, Bobby Wright, Penny Barrow, Trey Upchurch, and Frisco Johnson.
