Broox Lawrence “Pop” Blackwell, Jr., 74, of Rockville, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born in Jackson on May 23, 1946 to Broox Lawrence Blackwell, Sr. and Christine Allday Blackwell. He had been employed as lab technician at Ciba for 43 years and was a co-owner of Pine City Deli and Bakery. He was also a gifted taxidermist and the owner of Blackwell Taxidermy. His hobbies included fishing, observing wildlife and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Croom Blackwell; daughters, Lori (Jeff) Dolbear, Ginger (Dale) Newton, Kellie (Kent) Jones; grandchildren, Alex (Derrick) Nelson, Savanna (Tevin Walls) McKinstray, Sidney Counselman, Chase Newton, Jesse Kate Jones, Nathan Newton, Julian Jones and great-grandchildren, Andrew Broox Counselman, Sarah Jane Nelson, Eli Anderson, Levi Nelson, Amora Walls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Rockville Baptist Church in Jackson with the Rev. Mark Dunn officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Dolbear, Kent Jones, Julian Jones, Dale Newton, Chase Newton and Nathan Newton.
