Carl Etheredge, Sr.

Carl Tilman Etheredge, 82, of Leroy, passed away July 12, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 25, 1936 to William Jasper and Janie Elizabeth Reeves Etheredge. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had been employed at Boise as a security card and timekeeper for over 23 years before his health forced retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Leroy where he served as a deacon for many years. He served in many roles in his church through the years including Sunday School teacher and Brotherhood Director. He was very proud of his role as Santa Claus for eight years at Bel Air Mall in Mobile and sixteen years at local events. Until they were no longer physically able to continue, he and his wife, Betty Joyce Reeves Etheredge, frequently provided cakes they baked themselves and ice cream for the residents of the Jackson Health Care Facility. He was a member of numerous organizations including the National Rifle Association, the V.F.W. of Jackson, American Legion in Montgomery, and the Washington County Cattleman's Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bettye Bond Etheredge and siblings, Brooks Etheredge, Jasper Etheredge, Julian Etheredge, Ben Etheredge, Dovie Etheredge, Ina Powell, Bonnie Phillips, Ray Etheredge, Earl Etheredge and Bruce Etheredge.
He is survived by his wife; children, Rene' Etheredge, Jennifer (Terry) Smyly, Carl (Mike Tousley) Etheredge Jr., Donald (Diann) Dorman, Kate White Etheredge; grandchildren, Claire Elizabeth Forman, Catherine Anne Forman, Christopher (Stephanie) Forman, Jessica Smyly (Kevin) Lewis, Jeremy (Angela) Smyly, Zachary Brooks Smyly, Patrick Bond Etheredge, Dwain Thomas (Robin) Dorman, Dana Dorman (Wesley) Arnold; great-grandchildren, Grayson Beck, Savannah Autry, Lane Autry, Cooper Autry, Alexis Browne, Braden Browne, Ashtynn Browne, Riley Lewis, Owen Smyly, Lena Smyly, Olivia Forman and numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Leroy Baptist Church with the Revs. Dave Delegal and Ben Posey officiating and Mrs. Margaret Mathews as pianist. Visitation will be Sunday, July 15 from 5-7 p.m. at Leroy Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service on Monday at the New Leroy Baptist Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Zach Smyly, Dwain Dorman, Wesley Arnold, Tilman Bozeman, Gene Etheredge and Murray Etheredge.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School class and the deacons of Leroy Baptist Church.
