Carlton Ray Carpenter, 77, of Jackson, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019 at his residence. He was born August 22, 1941 to Henry David Carpenter and Irene Bush Carpenter in Chatom. A member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, he had retired from Boise Cascade. He was an avid fan of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball and enjoyed hunting and fishing. A family man, he often prepared meals for family gatherings and especially enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen Ray Carpenter; grandson, Stephen Clay Carpenter and siblings, Mae Beech, Howard Carpenter, J.W. Carpenter, Dorothy Laton and Loyd Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Powell Carpenter; children, Stephanie Ann (Pip) Allen, Stacy Carl (Cissy) Carpenter; grandchildren, Raechel (Calvin) Bosarge, Brittany (Wesley) Burge, J.P. Allen, Taylor Carpenter, Laura Kelly, Elizabeth (Cole) McKee, Carley Rae Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Hayden Allen Burge, Henry Madison Burge, Emma Wren McKee, Ashley Kathryn McKee, Calvin "Tripp" Bosarge, III; numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Dr. Ben Stubblefield and Rev. Brian Jemison officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will Taylor Carpenter, Calvin Bosarge, Larry Powell, Jr., J.P. Allen, Colton Paul and Grant Norris.
