Carolyn Gaddy Daffin, 86, died Friday, January 27, 2023 at home with her loved ones by her side. Carolyn was born in Bassetts Creek on January 1, 1937 to Coma and Nola Gaddy. She was a lifelong resident of Clarke County, where she was a member of Grove Hill United Methodist Church, the Clarke County Historical Society, and the Study Club's local chapter.
Carolyn was an outgoing, charismatic person who never met a stranger. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with friends and family, whether that was at a special event, playing bridge, or chatting over a cup of coffee at her kitchen table. She enjoyed bringing the family together and hosting holiday family gatherings and reunions. She dutifully honored the lives of loved ones who had passed on by visiting their graves and keeping their memories alive for generations to come by sharing their stories. Carolyn was also a fantastic cook who kept the old traditions alive such as making preserves, jams, and jellies to go with her wonderful homemade biscuits. She had a love of flowers and was known to swap a bulb or two with her friends in the community. In her later years, Carolyn would gather her first cousins at the family cabin in Bassetts Creek to spend time together chatting and quilting.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob White Daffin; brother-in-law, Lomax Sealy; nephew, Phillip Sealy and niece, Phyllis Sealy Bednarz.
She is survived by her sons, Rob Daffin (Renee) and John Daffin (Tammy); grandchildren, Jett Daffin and Emma Carolyn Daffin; sisters, Martha Sealy (Lomax) and Sandra Thomason (David) and their families; her dear first cousins, many additional cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Grove Hill United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the memorial service begins at 11:00 am in the main sanctuary with Rev. Kathy McKinley officiating.
