Carolyn Wood

November 30, 1942 — December 18, 2015

Carolyn Davis Wood, 73, of Grove Hill passed away Dec. 18, 2015 peacefully at home.

She was born November 30, 1942. She was Maw Maw, Miss Carolyn or Mrs. Wood to everyone that she ever met. The greatest testament to her as person is the outpouring of love and affection during her battle over cancer.

As her children were growing up and going through schools, she became a second mother to many and it was during that time that she started being known as Maw Maw.

From her time at Grove Hill Chevron through her days working at City Drugs she built friendships with people from every walk of life and truly loved those relationships.

She ended every meeting with a friend or conversation by telling that person she loved them.

She is survived by her son Ross Wood, Grove Hill; three daughters Dot (James) Maulden, Brundidge; Carol (Don) Gibbs, Sweet Water; Kelly (Patrick) Engerran; four grandchildren, Carson and Taryn Wood; Cassie and Taylor Gibbs; one brother Ebbin Register, Troy; three sisters, Margie Witherington, Luverne, Brenda Ponder, Opelika, Linda Henderson, Goshen.

Three faithful caregivers Dawn Hardy, Lillie Armistead and Nikki Gaines.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy Wood, parents Fred and Frances Davis, three brothers, Matt Davis, Freddie Davis and John Davis.

Active pallbearers were Kim Kelley, Darren Henson, Myron Gregory, Taylor Gibbs, Jimmy Barnes and William Hardy.

Honorary pallbearers were Courtney Clements and the rest of the nurses and staff at SouthernCare Hospice in Grove Hill.

The service was Dec. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with Randy Boone officiating. Burial was at the Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Grove Hill.
