Jane S. Woodson died on November 29, 2017 at her home in Jackson. A celebration of life service will be conducted on December 3, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning two hours prior to the service. Rev. Alan Gantzhorn will officiate.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Harriett Slaughter Swanson and Hubert Swanson; her sister, Helen Robinson, and her beloved husband of 56 years, Ernest F. Woodson, Sr. and her stillborn daughter, Harriett Elwyn.
Survivors include her children, Leisa A. (Stacey) Stewart of Spanish Fort, Alabama, Frank (Marti) Woodson of Montgomery, and Kevin (Kristi) Woodson of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Stacey Stewart, Walker Woodson, Win Woodson, Reid Woodson, Shaw Woodson, Parker Woodson, Mara Woodson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jane was born in Monroeville, Alabama on January 9, 1930. She graduated from Clarke County High School in 1948 and then attended Jefferson Hillman Nursing School in Birmingham and received a B.S. degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama in 1953. After graduation, she was employed at Jackson Hospital as a nurse. She married Ernest F. Woodson on June 5, 1955.
Jane stayed at home to raise her children. She was an active member in the Jackson Women's Club for over 60 years and served as its president on three separate occasions and was the only member to serve in all offices.
Jane was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson until her health prevented her attendance. She enjoyed her friends and time spent at Health Actions.
