Lt. Col. Charles K. Bush, 89, of Grove Hill, passed away at his home on October 12, 2022. Ken was born on February 26, 1933, to parents William Adlai and Lorena Pleasant Bush in Whatley, Alabama. He grew up in Gosport and Later moved to where he called home, Grove Hill. Mr. Bush graduated from Clarke County High School in 1951, shortly after he went to Officers Candidate School, and served 35 years in the Alabama National Guard achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Ken retired from ALDOT, where he was a materials engineer. He was also a member of the Grove Hill Fire Department for 30 years, with 11 years as chief, belonged to the Grove Hill Masonic Lodge #7, the Jaycees, and was appointed by Gov. Guy Hunt to serve as Commissioner in District 1. Ken was a member of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church. With baseball being one of his favorite sports he coached, for many years, his Yankees team in the Dixie Youth Little League. He loved his family dearly, and enjoyed every opportunity to spend with them
Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Marsha Ann Bush, sister Ann Bush Kennedy, brothers John Golbold Bush and William Adlai Bush Jr.
Survived by his wife of 69 years, Anita Downey Bush, son Charles Kendall (Beverly) Bush Jr., daughters Kathy (Mike) Brown and Karen Wood, brother Herbert Pleasant Bush. Grandchildren Wendy (Ricky) Gray, Melissa (Alan) Tolbert, William (Lacy) Brown, Victor (Logan) Wood, Hannah Wood, and Anna Claire Bush, great-grandchild Brooklyn Brown.
Pallbearers will be Victor Wood, William Brown, Ricky Gray, Alan Tolbert, Nic Council, and Tommy Mathews. Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Bush, Robin Bush, Robin Downey, Keith Downey, Joey Downey, Michael Downey, Tommy Kennedy, Larry Newsom, Mikey Wiggins, Ward Edge, Keith Newton, Paul Manning, Billy Bixler, Ora Mae Russell, Janice Ezell, Gwen Kidd, Rosa Clarke, Karl Russell, Chris Bush, and Jeff Reese.
Funeral services will be at 11 am at Grove Hill United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to services. Rev. Kathy McKinley and Bro. Dave Rhodes officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
