Charles Peevy

May 27, 1948 — December 29, 2023

Charles Peevy, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 29, 2023 at the age of 75. Charles loved God, First Baptist Church, his family, and many friends. After graduating from Jackson High School in 1966, he immediately went to work for Mr. S. D. Newman. A few years later, he started working for McKee Construction Company where he learned asphalt paving and construction. Following his tenure under Mr. J.P. McKee, Charles went on to work for Boise Cascade, until he left and co-founded Southwest Alabama Construction. He served as vice president of SAC for 20 years until its closing in 2011. He then became an area manager for H. O. Weaver and Sons until his retirement in 2018. Charles loved construction and operating heavy equipment, and continued working until December 2023. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Jackson Fire Department for more than 25 years. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting with his children and grandchildren and tending his yard.

Charles was born on May 27, 1948 to Margaret Moore Peevy and Fredrick Edward Peevy in Atmore, Alabama. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years Jenelle Smith Peevy; his daughters, Kim Peevy Bailey (Jim) and Karen Peevy Gunter (Bob); grandchildren Madison Bailey Settle (Bryar), Caroline Bailey, Charles (Chase) Gunter, and Claire Gunter; great grandson, Graham Settle; brother Fred Peevy, Jr. (Sharlett), sisters Kathy Peevy Hayles (Keith) and Mary Peevy Harper (Rod); sisters-in-law, Pip Smith Hudson (Johnny) and Debra Smith Barnes (Roger); and many nieces and nephews.
