Charles M. “Smoky” Roberts, 87, of Grove Hill, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Thomasville Nursing Home. He was born September 27, 1932 to Clarence and Nellie Northrop Roberts in Coffeeville. A dispatcher with the Alabama State Troopers for many years, he was active in community events and was a member of Jones Chapel Church of Christ in Coffeeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Helen Roberts, Janie Roberts and siblings, Ray Roberts, E.K. Roberts, DuBose Roberts, Delilah Harper, John William Truett and Doris James.
He is survived by his children, Charles “Terry” (Nan) Roberts, Tracey Roberts; grandchildren, Chuck Roberts, Grace Roberts (Adam) Cunningham, Ashley Roberts (Matthew Morgan), Justin Roberts; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Cassady, Destinie Cassady, Brylan Cunningham, Ariela Morgan, Elias Roberts and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with the Rev. Benny Harrison officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Magnolia Lawn Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Shane Roberts, Ben Harper, Greg Truett, Steve Roberts, Ken Roberts and Patrick Truett
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Norris, Tony Roberts, Jerry Newton and Ray Sheffield.
