Charles Wheat

Charles T. Wheat, 74, of Tibbie, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Jackson on Sunday, October 19, 1947. He was a member of Bethel United Church in Tibbie and had retired as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking and spending time with his family. He had a big heart and enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Wheat, Viola Burroughs Wheat and siblings, Jerome Wheat, William Wheat, Thomas Wheat, Delores Brown and Grace Glass.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Jones Wheat; children, Mark Smith, Ronnie (Debra) Smith, Glenda (Buck) Oates, Brenda (Mike) Oates; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Rev. Braxton Eldredge officiating. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Bethel United Cemetery in Tibbie with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Glass, William Glass, Chris Knight, Henry Ross, Greg Wheat and Thomas "T-Bone" Wheat.
Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Jones, Joseph Owens and Brandon Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bethel United Cemetery Fund.
