Charles Percy Clarke, 94, died April 1, 2023. Percy was born September 14, 1928 to John B. and Flossie Clarke. A lifelong resident of Grove Hill, Percy was a member of Amity Baptist Church and was a Mason. He enjoyed carpentry and handywork and was known to be a bit of a tinkerer. Percy retired from Alabama Department of Transportation having worked as an engineer for 43 years and 7 months. Percy served the Lord as a reverend for over 50 years in Clarke and Marengo Counties, pastoring at Amity Baptist Church, Salem Baptist Church, Lower Peachtree Baptist Church, Bassett Creek Baptist Church, Chilton Baptist Church and Aimwell Baptist Church before returning to his home at Amity Baptist Church.
Percy is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 71 years, Dorothy Clarke; daughter, Barbara Wilson; son Charles Clarke; sisters, Marie Davis, Louise Lavender, Margie Monroy, Myrtie Morgan, Emma Jean Harvell and Retha Campbell; and brothers, J. B. Clarke, Jr., Curry Clarke, Cecil Clarke and Bobby Clarke.
He is survived by his grandson/adopted son/devoted caregiver, Daryl Wilson; sisters, Eloise Wilson and Catherine Harrell; brother, Murphy (Ann) Clarke; 3 granddaughters, Kristen, Stacey and Rachel; special longtime family friend, Betty Roberts; his "angel" and longtime family friend, Jennifer Durbin; caregivers, Sandra Johnson, Jeanie Bedwell and Kelvin Chapman; beloved dog, ChiChi as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Lathan Funeral Home, Grove Hill with Rev. Warren Huggins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will follow in Grove Hill Town Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home, officiating.
Active Pallbearers will be Trayce Flowers, Marc Bennett, Nick Zorn, Chris Clarke, Richy Harrell, Jerry Wayne Norris, Andrew Smith and Cameron Whittfield.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the devoted nurses and staff of Southern Care Hospice and exceptional nurses and staff of SAAD Inpatient Hospice Retreat.
