Charlotte Burnett Elms Loper died May 24, 2018. Mrs Loper was born November 16, 1939 to the late Rev. John Wesley and Fannie Carpenter Burnett in Newton County, Mississippi. She was a resident of Chatom where she retired after 26 years of teaching in the Mobile County and Washington County Board of Education. She graduated from the University of South Alabama, was a faithful member of Springhill Baptist church.
Mrs. Loper is survived by her children, Gary Todd (Rosemary) Elms of Saraland, AL, Elisha (Thomas) Coyle of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Stephen Todd (Amy) Elms of Saraland, AL, Elaina Rebecca Elms, Nursing School at USM, Hattiesburg, MS, Charlotte Rose Coyle of Houston, TX, Evan Thomas Coyle of Houston, TX, Maggie Caroline Coyle of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Harper Grace Elms, Harrison Todd Elms, Hayden Howell Elms, all from Saraland, AL. Sisters Martha Beavers of Bogue Chitto, MS, Margaret Ard of Ruth, MS, and Betty Matens of Madison, MS; brothers Leroy Burnett of Brookhaven, MS, John Burnett of Jackson, MS, Kenneth Burnett of Knoxville, TN and James Burnett of Vicksburg, MS. Also her special loyal companion since Mr. Loper's passing, Casper, her dog.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Winfred Loper, father Reverend John Wesley Burnett and mother Fannie Carpenter Burnett; sisters, Helen Burnett S. Stancil, and Oneida Burnett Brantley; and, brothers, Adrian O. Burnett Sgt. USAF, Arden Burnett, and Robert Burnett.
Funeral services will be at 11 am on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Chatom with a viewing from 10-11 am for family and friends. Pallbearers are; Gary Todd Elms, Stephen Elms, Thomas Coyle, Bob Jenkins, Dale Carpenter, Stuart Eubanks, honorary pallbearer; Evan Coyle. Mr. Bob Jenkins officiating, funeral directors, Lathan Funeral Home.
