Daniel Lee

Daniel Stephen Lee, 72, affectionally known as Mr. Wonderful, passed away on January 4, 2024, at his home in Grove Hill surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 12, 1951, in Modesto, CA, to his parents Harold and Wilda Lee.

Danny was a proud graduate of Modesto High in Modesto, CA. He furthered his education in the Bay Area advancing his career in the electrical field profession. He later became employed by WPA - Wonderful Pistachios and Almonds in Lost Hills, CA, where he was happily employed for 38 years. He retired September 1, 2022.

In 2006, Danny married the love of his life, Kathryn Overton. Together they enjoyed traveling and spending quality time with family; time that was always filled with love and laughter. He especially loved being "The Captain" and chauffeuring his precious wife and her "sistas" on numerous road trips and outings.

One of the joys in Danny's life was always helping others. He also enjoyed tending to his beautiful roses, piddling in the yard and on his tractors, as well as showing off his newly built barn. He also carried on his mother's tradition of making pomegranate jelly that he loved passing out to his friends and family.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, twin brothers Lewis and Leslie Lee, and niece Cindy Lee.

Danny is survived by his loving wife Kathryn, special daughters Michele O. Wood and Jamie O. (Brent) Gilchrist, his adored grands Taryn Wood, Josie and Layla Blue Gilchrist, all of Grove Hill; his brother Dwight (Karaleen) Lee, Shirley (Duane) Lindsey, and Sydney Lee Sears, all of California; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and former colleagues.

The service to honor Danny's life will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Union Baptist Church on Allen Walker Road in Grove Hill. Visitation is at 11 with the service at 12 noon. Interment is in the adjoining cemetery. A special memorial will be held at a later date in Bakersfield, CA, for family and friends on the West Coast.

Pallbearers are Brent Gilchrist, Thomas Coxwell, Larry Newsom, Chad Busby, Terry Glidewell, and Phillip Hamilton.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Union Baptist Church Men's Brotherhood.

Mr. Wonderful will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and joy he brought to every gathering and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
