Darrell Duane Overstreet, 74, of Jackson, passed away on April 24, 2024, at his residence. He was born on August 20, 1949, to Elwood, Sr., and Louise Overstreet. Darrell was a member of Rockville Baptist church. Before retirement, Darrell had worked for Smith Lumber Company in Saw Filer prior to working for Alabama River Pulp (ARP) for 28 years. After retiring from ARP he returned to the workforce in City Maintenance for the City of Jackson. Darrell loved nicknames, including his own, "The Duke of Choctaw"; he was known to give family and friends alike a nickname or two. Darrell loved his family dearly and was proud to count many of the children in the community as his bonus children and grandchildren. Darrell enjoyed hunting deer, turkey, and duck, going fishing, predator trapping and gardening.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Courtlyn Reed; and brother-in-law James Shipp.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beth Overstreet; daughters Jill (Rick) Goolsby; Lauren (Brandon) Reed; Courtney (Todd) Clark; grandchildren: Robin (Allison) Swift, Madison Reed, Maggie Reed, Lillie Grace Reed, Ainsley Clark, Ada Quinn Clark; great granddaughter Frances Swift; siblings: Patricia Shipp, Elwood "Sonny" (Carolyn) Overstreet, Joe (Margie) Overstreet and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Jackson. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral begins at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in Rockville Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darrell's memory to Rockville Baptist Church, 7685 Rockville Road, Jackson, AL 36545 or Kingdom Builders Ministry, P.O. Box 1448, Jackson, AL 36545.
Active pallbearers will be Todd Clark, Brandon Reed, Caleb Alday, Robin Swift, Dillon Gates, Jason Thomas, Jonathan Taylor, and Luke Lankford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Bumpers, Paul South, David Batley, Rick Beecher, Chris Walker, Grey Jones, Jim Perine Sr., Ray Pipkin, and Keith Overstreet.
