David Gahlinger

David Gahlinger, age 84, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024. Born on March 23, 1940 in Shively, Kentucky to Clarence and Lavada Gahlinger, David lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and education. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology, which laid the foundation for his long and successful career in the pulp and paper industry.

David was a proud 32nd-Degree Free Mason and a Kentucky Colonel, he was honored for his exceptional character and contributions to his community. David was recognized in the 1969 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. He also served with Clarke County Kingdom Builders, exemplifying a life dedicated to service and fellowship.

David had a passion for life and a wide range of interests. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying horseback riding, golfing, hunting, and fishing. In his leisure, he enjoyed reading, solving crossword and sudoku puzzles, watching sports (Alabama, Kentucky, and the New Orleans Saints were his teams). He also enjoyed watching westerns and playing card games with his family.

David was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother who cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his two daughters, Terri McHargue and Tracy Gahlinger; his brother, Arnold Gahlinger; two grandchildren, Mitch (McKenzie) McHargue and Miller (Sarah) McHargue; and two great grandchildren, Monroe McHargue and Josephine McHargue. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Lavada Gahlinger; his wife of 55 years, Betty Gahlinger; his son-in-law, Ronnie McHargue; and his brother, Wayne Gahlinger.

David will be remembered as a true family man who lived life to the fullest. His warmth, dedication, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Memorial Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Lathan Funeral Home, Jackson with Rev. Brian Jemison officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
