Davis M. Henson, Jr., 90, of Chatom, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at his residence. He was born December 17, 1929 to Davis M. Henson, Sr. and Stella Dorothy Schell Henson in Chatom. An active member of Chatom Baptist Church, he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher for 58 years. After earning his civil engineering degree at Auburn University, he served as the county engineer with the Washington County Commission for more than 32 years. He also served on the Clarke-Washington EMC Board of Directors for 32 years and was a Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 53 for several years. He taught mechanical drawing at the County Vocational Center for one year and enjoyed wood carving and crossword puzzles, Auburn football and traveling with his wife, Audrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Henson and brother-in-law, Ernie Owen.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Audrey Johnston Henson; sons, Paul (Amy) Henson, Clay (Sherry) Henson; grandchildren, Ivy (Braden) Bell, Daley (Patrick) Snell, Davis Henson, Pierce Henson, Lauren Henson, Max (Melissa) Witt; great-grandchildren, Grayson Bell, Clark Witt; sister, Harriett Owen; brother, Gus (Katharine) Henson; sister-in-law, Bettye Jean Henson and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Chatom Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Roberson officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Chatom Town Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Carl Craig, Roy Donald, Billy Joe Odom, Milton Schell, Wiley Schell and Charlie Williams.
