Dorothy (Dot) Lee Kirven (Big Mama) Bostrom, 94, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 15, 2019. Dot, a lifelong resident of Jackson and friend to many, was born on February 4, 1925 was raised on W. Clinton St. by parents, Bryan Edwards and Tennie Mae McDonald Kirven. They and her sister, Imogen Kirven Pearce, preceded her in death.
Big Mama was the adoring wife of M.O. (Toe) (Big Daddy) Bostrom who also preceded her in death. They were faithful members of First Baptist Church Jackson where she taught a class of special needs children, youth, and adults for many years. She and Big Daddy sang joyfully together in the choir.
Dot was a porcelain artist and a member of their Association. She also taught China painting to many in the Jackson area who shared her love of painting and each other. She treasured friends in the Woman’s Club and Home Extension as well as her church and hometown family.
Big Mama’s greatest pride was her five daughters who survive her: Terri Henley (Tom); Tena Hoyle (Bill Armstrong); Tam Horton; Tanya Overton (Jackie); and Tracey Nance (Barry). Also surviving her are 12 grandchildren: Tenalee Dumas; Warren Henley (Sha); Will Hoyle (Jamaica); Rachel Hoyle (Harmony Keeney); Holly Horton Stanley; Heath Horton; Amanda Reid (Andy); Melissa Tavis (Tony); Katy Conley (Dean); Millie Burgett (Seth); Courtney Nance; and Ryan Nance. Big Mama is survived by 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 in First Baptist Church sanctuary on Tuesday, December 17, and the funeral will follow at 2:00, with Dr. Ben Stubblefield officiating. Graveside services will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
