Dorothy Merle Johnston Platt was born on March 15, 1933 to Jack and Helen Johnston of Yarbo, Alabama. She passed away January 9, 2017 at Mobile Infirmary. Dorothy was a graduate of Washington County High School, a graduate of Huffstetler Business College, was one of the founders of McIntosh Christian Academy, member of the Eastern Star, member of Gideons International, retiree of Searcy Hospital, and a faithful member of McIntosh Baptist Church where she served as clerk for many years. She was also an avid homemaker, baker, devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, G. E. "Jack" and Helen Johnston; infant brother, Glover Elwood Johnston, Jr.; and the love of her life and husband for 60 years, Roy E. Platt.
Mrs. Platt is survived by daughters, Marsha (Bob) Stiltner, Mary (Bill) Walls, Kay (Taylor) Sanford, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, cousins, Charlotte Strickland and Ouida Morgan, as well as numerous other family and friends.
Services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at McIntosh Baptist Church with Pastor John Stone, Bro. Gary Pickard, and grandson Billy Miller officiating. Visitation will be 11 am to 1 pm. Interment will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service.
Pallbearers will be Billy Miller, Matt Patterson, Danny King, Joe Johnston, DeRan Morgan, and Edmond Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of McIntosh Baptist Church.
