Dorothy Smith

Dorothy Louise Smith, 73, of Grove Hill, passed away January 9, 2016 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. She was born June 7, 1942. A lifelong resident of the Grove Hill area, she was affectionately known as "Aunt Dot" to the many people that she lovingly mothered. Although she was feisty and opinionated, she was an independent lady who enjoyed arts and crafts and like to paint and make ornaments which she frequently gave as gifts.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Bernard James and Louise Wiggins James and her husband, Cecil H. Smith.


She is survived by her siblings, William James, Janice Carpenter, Joan Dykes; nieces and nephews, Jessie Criswell, James Weaver, Darlene Walker, Roy Williams, Jenny Crawford, Sarah Beddingfield, Rusty Richburg, Jr. and numerous other relatives, friends and loved ones.


A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at West Bend Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill at 10:30 a.m. A processional will leave the funeral home at 12 p.m. and proceed to the cemetery. Services will be directed by Lathan Funeral Home.
