Dottie Rea Purvis Harrell, 90, of Grove Hill died September 21, 2018 in a Mobile Hospital. She was born June 20, 1928 in West Bend, AL. She exemplified her faith by selflessly serving others in countless ways.
She was a long-time resident of the Antioch community and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for more than 40 years. She enjoyed being a long-time member of the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) and the Alabama Homemakers and Community Leaders Club. She retired from Vanity Fair Mills in Jackson in 1992 after working for more than 45 years. In retirement, she continued to serve her community as a poll worker at the Antioch polling place.
Survivors include her son, Larry Purvis (Carolyn) Harrell; daughter-in-law, Sharon Brown Harrell; sisters, Eva Lowe and Retha (Nannie) Harrell; grandchildren, LaSha Harrell (Brandon) Nelson, Clint (Kaye) Harrell, Will (Summer) Harrell,; great-grandchildren, Laken Nix, Jakob Harrell, Kris Harrell, Sawyer Harrell, David Harrell and Laura Beth Harrell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Harrell and a son, Edward Ronnie Harrell, as well as three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church in Grove Hill with the Revs. Danny Chancey and Benny Harrison officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Will Harrell, Clint Harrell, Brandon Nelson, Jakob Harrell, Kris Harrell, David Harrell, Johnny Purvis and Roger Pugh.
All nieces and nephews will be honorary pallbearers.
