Edward Kenneth Overton, 90, of Grove Hill, passed away May 11, 2019 at his residence. He was born August 25, 1928 to Edward and Adele Schultz Overton in Grove Hill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the Army National Guard, serving during the Korean Conflict. Edward was lifelong attendee of Jackson First Assembly of God. He was a retired supervisor with the Alabama State Highway Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert Overton and sister, Beatrice Overton.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Ikner Overton; son, Charles (Kimberly) Overton; grandchildren, Holly (Michael) Hayes, Chris Shaw, Kathy Shaw, Ian Shaw; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Hayes, Alex Hayes, Allie Hayes; numerous nieces and nephews, including Rayford (Shirley) Overton and Sharon (Ervin) Brewer; numerous other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Rev. Kevin Lewis officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
