Elbert Rogers Pettis, 86, of Leroy, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 13, 1938, in Pleasant Grove, Alabama to his parents, Joe Pettis and Ollie Wilson Pettis.
Rogers spent four years in the United States Air Force and two years in the national guard and retired from Alabama Electric after working there for twenty years. He had a passion for woodworking and gardening and especially spending time with his family. Rogers was married to the love of his life for sixty-one years, Flora Woodyard Pettis. Together they raised three boys, Bert, Brett, and Bart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ollie Pettis.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Pettis, children; Bert (Crystal) Pettis, Brett (Ellen) Pettis, Bart (Tammy) Pettis, grandchildren; Josie (Zach) Webb, Shelby Pettis, Stephen Pettis, Addison (Justin) Browder, Sydney Pettis, John Clayton Pettis, Molly Pettis; great-grandchildren; Jameson Webb and Hadlee Tarver, sisters Betty (Doug) Smith, and Glovine Powers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Rev. Jennifer Gregory officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Justin Browder, Heath Guy, Jason Guy, Riley Jones, Jonathan Tarver, Joe Tolbert, Zach Webb, and Joey Woodyard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Connerly, Gerald Guy, Doug Smith, and Joe Woodyard.
