Ellen Marguritte Williams, 81, of Leroy, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at her residence. She was born in Yellow Pine on June 4, 1938 to Herschel Adam Wood and Marguritte Johnston Wood. A retired teacher and librarian with the Washington County Board of Education, she was also a member of The First Baptist Church of Leroy where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, playing board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and researching Confederate history. She was a charter member and former president of the local UDC chapter.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Herman Williams; daughters, Ruth (Darwin) Lynch, Pam (Larry) Scurlock; grandchildren, Justin (Ginny) Lynch, Lindsay Lynch, Jacob (Savahna) Scurlock, Lucas Scurlock; great-grandchildren, Chandler Lynch, Eli Lynch, Harper Lynch, Davis Lynch and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at The First Baptist Church of Leroy with the Revs. Mike Chatham officiating and Ben Posey offering the eulogy. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Grace Williams Cemetery in Fruitdale with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Justin Lynch, Jacob Scurlock, Lucas Scurlock, Darwin Lynch, Larry Scurlock and Harold Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joe Pace Palmer Sunday School Class at Leroy Baptist Church.
