Elray Copeland

October 12, 1939 — August 9, 2021

Elray Copeland, 81, of Whatley died August 9, 2021. He was born October 21, 1939. Elray proudly served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning. Mr. Copeland was called to serve from his Lord as a deacon from July 24, 1983 until his death. He also served the Children's Bus Ministry for Amity Baptist Church for 10 years. He had worked as a rural letter carrier and retired after 40 years of service. Mr. Copeland also owned Twin Pines Stable where he raised, bred and showed with great pride many of his racking and walking horses. He was also a member of Sherriff Posse under Ray Sheffield as well as an auditor for Greers for 20 years. Elray also enjoyed singing and playing guitar.

Elray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Pugh Copeland; daughters, Sandra Garner and Linda (Dale) Goodman; grandchildren, Lee Ramsey, Jonathan Ramsey, Brandi (Tony) Stacey, Brittany (Brandon) Garrick, and Lacey Ramsey; great grandchildren, Brooke Ramsey, Theron Stacey, Destiny Crutchfield, Hunter Stacey, Hailey Crutchfield, Alyssa Crutchfield, Aaron Barbour, Reece Garrick, Tanner Herring and Lucas Stacey; sisters Mae Eva Newman, Jearlene Voshla, Evelyn Cooper, and brother Teddy Gene Copeland

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tim Jackson Copeland and Millie Lorene Phillips; siblings, Mary Ethel Copeland, Betty Louise Turner, Glendine Garrick, James Coleman Copeland, Mary Janice Elmore, Clyde Douglas Copeland and Romaine Daniels.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at Amity Baptist Church at 3:00 pm with Bro. Chris Kynard and Bro. Craig Weaver officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Troy Pugh, Michael Rush, Byron Hudson, Vince Hamilton, Jonathan Ramsey, Ivan Hamilton, and David Sheffield.
