Elsie Carney, 88, of Chatom, passed away at the Washington County Nursing Home with her family by her side. Elsie was born on July 20, 1936, to parents Tallie and Goldie Loper. She was reared in Wagarville, and later moved to Chatom. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, and spending time with her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Spring Bank Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by her parents, son Darrell Carney, daughter Lynn Grimes, and brother Tallie Chapman Loper.
Survived by her son Terry (Dianna) Carney, daughter Diane (Clyde) Lawarence, grandchildren Joseph Carney, T Kaye (Kyle) Lindsey, Krystal Carney, Jeremy Sullivan, Randy Ferrell, Nickie Jones, Tara Gault, Kayle Newburn, Brooke Williams, many great-grandchildren, brother Grover (Sharron) Loper, sisters Voncille Tarver and Elva Savage, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Lindsey, Chad Loper, Tracy Loper, Joseph Carney, Randy Ferrell, JBird Dunagan.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Tallie Loper Cemetery at Spring Bank Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to services at Spring Bank Baptist Church.
