Bruce Thornton, 78, of State Line, MS, passed away on December 13, 2023. He was born on March 6, 1945, to parents Alexander and Della Hare Thornton. He was born in State Line, Mississippi and married his high school sweetheart Bernice, and they started a loving family there also. Bruce loved the outdoors, which made his career in land management enjoyable, he retired from Scott Paper Company. He collected knives, arrowheads, loved Alabama football, liked deer and turkey hunting, and wrote a book on the hobby. Most importantly he loved his family, sharing his knowledge and talents with them, his great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene Thornton, Frank Thornton, and sisters Lillian Webb, Rosetta Dearmon.
Survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice Thornton, son Joe Thornton, daughter Susie Thornton, grandchildren Tamara (Kyle) Richardson, Shanda Thornton, Cody Thornton, Jody (Lauren) Thornton, Morgana Coleman, and Meaghan Coleman, great-grandchildren Alec, Sophie, Zoe, Kip, Lucas, Brody, Karleigh, Ryder, Kolt, Presley Jane, and Adalyn. Siblings Gladys (Tommy) Delk, Brenda (Larry) Crager, Marie (Roger) Hall, Glen (Pam) Thornton, Phyliss Thornton. Also, many nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at State Line First Baptist with a visitation one hour prior to services. Bro. Michael Stevenson and Bro. Johnny Tucker officiating with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Online condolences may be shared at www.lathanfuneralhome.com
