Gary Sinclair

October 26, 1948 — October 30, 2023

Gary L. Sinclair passed away on October 30th 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born in Denver Co, on October 26th, 1948 and was raised in Euless, TX. He graduated from L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, TX in 1967. He then joined the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. After returning home, he met and married his wife Christine.

Gary continued his life of service after the Marine Corps with a 45 year law enforcement career including: Marion PD, AL (Patrolman), North Richardson Hills PD, TX (Detective), Jackson PD, AL (Patrol LT), and Bedford PD, TX (Patrolman). Gary served on the DFW DPS Police Dept. from 1984 until he retired in 2008, rising through the ranks to Lieutenant. He served in the Patrol Division, Training Section and Support Services Division. However, his favorite role was as a Field Training Officer and Training Lieutenant. He loved to train and teach new officers.

Retirement did not sit well with Gary, so back to work he went. He served as the Chief of Police in Bovina, TX from 2008 to 2011 and Chief of Police in Dalhart, TX from 2011 to 2016. While at Dalhart, he was selected to serve on the Texas Police Chiefs Executive Board which was a crowning achievement and he served with great pride.

Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christine Sinclair, mother in-law Nell Smith (whom he cared for like his own mother), son Gary Sinclair Jr and wife Crystal Sinclair of Pocatello, ID, granddaughter Diana Sinclair Blackmon, and two great grandchildren Demi and Jack Blackmon (St. Stephens, AL). He is also survived by his loyal yellow lab B.J. and preceding him in death his loyal black lab Jack.

In Gary's free time, he enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his family camping, and hunting. Particularly pheasant hunting with his dog Jack and fly fishing with his son Gary Jr. in the back country of ID and Yellowstone National Park. Another of his greatest joys was watching Alabama football. Roll Tide!
