Gerald Braxton "Jerry" Mathews, 82, of Grove Hill, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at SAAD Hospice in Mobile. He was born in Jackson on January 6, 1939 to M.C. Mathews and Gladys Ryser Mathews, both of whom preceded him in death. A lifelong farmer, he was most happy when he was working on his farm where he primarily raised cattle, cotton and peanuts. He was a member of The Alabama Soil & Water Conservation Board and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) Committee, both in Clarke County. He was also a member of Union Methodist Church in Antioch.
He is survived by his brothers, Gayle (Jean) Mathews, Bill (Sheron) Mathews; nephew, Tommy (Debra) Mathews; niece, Courtney (Timmy) Windham; seven great-nieces and nephews; three great, great nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Dr. Johnny Kendrick officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Mathews, Mathew Windham, Will Windham, David Richardson, Walt Richardson and Will Richardson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
