Glenn V. McDaniel, 74, of Chatom, Alabama, passed away January 24, 2019, at his residence. He was born May 21, 1944 in Brewton, Alabama to U.V. and Doris Simmons McDaniel. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served two years during the Vietnam Conflict as a member of C-4-503, 173rd Airborne Brigade for which he earned Jumpmaster Wings, the Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He also served the state of Alabama for 25 years as a Conservation Officer with the Game and Fish Division. In retirement, he attended the University of South Alabama, where he earned a bachelor's degree in archeology with a minor in history. He worked for five years as an archeologist and loved reading Native American history and non-fiction. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eric Thompson; and stepson, Robby Jordan.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Bell McDaniel; children, Holly B. (Kathryn) Jordan, Marty (Sheila) McDaniel; grandchildren, Lucia, Elliott and Mazie Jordan, Dallas McDaniel, and Gabrielle Turner; sister, Jane (Mark) Coale; and brother, Bobby McDaniel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Rev. Holly Morales officiating. Visitation will be held at 10:00 that morning. Interment will follow at the Chatom Town Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, employees of the Alabama Game and Fish Division, Chip Bell, Tony Lee and Perry Jones.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations in his memory be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
