Gregg Stokes, 69, of Leroy, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at his residence. He was born October 15, 1949 to Charles G. Stokes, Jr. and Gwendolyn Mae Carr Stokes in Galveston, TX. He had been employed as a chemical operator at Ciba and served in the special forces of the U.S. Army. He was also an active member of the Leroy Volunteer Fire Departments and the National Association of EMT’s. A bible scholar and devout Christian, he was member of 3 Circle Church in Thomasville. His other interest included trains and golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Hunter Stokes.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rebecca R. Stokes and was often heard commenting that “My Becky is the world to me.” Other survivors include sons, Christopher (Brandy) Stokes, Stephen (Esther) Stokes; grandchildren, Christopher Morgan, Jessie Morgan, Tyler Odom, Hannah Stokes, Joshua Anderson, Cheyenne Stokes, Gabriel Sullivan, Zacchaeus Sullivan, Jeremiah Stokes, Bryan Stokes; great-grandchild, Maya Grace Morgan; brother, Mike (Ellen) Stokes; special friends Charlene and David Rikard and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Leroy with the Revs. Scott Myers, Jordan Matheson, Ron Pierce and Spencer Turnipseed officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Walt Richardson, David Richardson, Will Richardson, Sam Calderone, John Calderone, Michael Waddill and David Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Leroy Volunteer Fire Department and other fire service representatives.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made the Alabama Kidney Foundation, 2012 University Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35233; 3 Circle Church in Thomasville or Pine Grove UMC in Leroy.
