Harriet Elliott

Harriet Elizabeth Priest Elliott, age 82, departed from this world on December 14, 2021 in Hillsborough, North Carolina, following a brief illness. She was welcomed with open arms into the Kingdom of Heaven by her husband, Frank Rea Elliott; her mother, Marjorie Fendley Priest; her father, Leroy Richard Priest; her sister and brother-in-law, Frances Priest McVay and Dr. Leon Victor McVay, Jr.; and other beloved family members. Mrs. Elliott is survived by her niece, Anne McVay Pearson, of Summerdale, AL; her nephews, Leon Victor McVay, III (Lucy) of Mobile, AL and Malcolm Ervin McVay (Anne), of Magnolia Springs, AL; her stepson, Bently Thomas Elliott (Troy), of New Canaan, CT; as well by many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and several great-nieces.

Born in Dothan, AL on December 7, 1939, Harriet grew up in Jackson, AL where she was an active member of First Baptist Church. After graduating from Jackson High School as the valedictorian of the Class of 1958, she attended Auburn University and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She graduated from Florida State University in 1962 and then attended Tulane University in New Orleans, where she earned her Master of Social Work degree in 1964. As a social worker in Miami, she met her future husband, Frank. They were married on June 17, 1969 in Montgomery County, PA, and enjoyed a honeymoon trip touring the Caribbean. They lived in New York, NY for several years before moving to Atlanta, GA. Once there, Harriet worked at her husband's advertising firm. Harriet and Frank were married for 33 years and shared a passion for the Lord and doing His work.

As a resident of Atlanta for more than forty years, Harriet was an active member of Hope + Life Church in Snellville as well as the Bible Fellowship Sunday School Class at Mount Paran Church. She met many friends through her life as a servant of the Lord, and as a resident of the Sagamore Hills neighborhood, and she was also devoted to a loving network of close friends and neighbors who were very special to her. From a young age, Harriet dedicated her life to Christ, and strived throughout her life to spread His Word and good news. In 2001, Harriet and Frank published their book, Your Rescue Plan for the Third Millennium, which they gave away freely, including shipping boxes of the book to mission groups all over the world.

The family would like to thank Pauline Hampton of Kadan Homecare in Atlanta for her wonderful, personalized care of Harriet over the past few years. Harriet's family also gives joyful thanks that Harriet has left the troubles of her earthly body behind and that her spirit will now rejoice (forevermore) in everlasting life with her Savior and Lord. Harriet Elliott lived every day of her life with unwavering faith, hope, and love. And her greatest gift was love.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Cemetery in Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements have been made by Lathan's Funeral Home, 1867 U.S. 43, Jackson, AL 36545.
