Helen Parnell, 82, of Tibbie, a faithful servant of her Lord and family, ended her service on earth February 2, 2019 and is now rejoicing with her Savior.. She was born January 5, 1937 to Elvin Ross, Sr. and Mineola Cooper Ross.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Jackie Cooper, Elvin Ross, Jr., Frank Ross, Mary Benton and Louise Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leon Parnell of Tibbie; children, Gordon (Lynn) Parnell of Tibbie, Debbie (Steve) Castelin of Panama City, FL, Sandra (Dean) Brown of Tibbie; "adopted" daughter and family, Tiina Mikkola of Halikko, Finland; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Josh (Melissa) Parnell and Ragan Parnell; Joseph Parnell and Harper Parnell; Daniel Castelin and Alex Castelin, James Slade Briscoe; Christina (Joel) McKay, Connor and Jacob McKay; Tell (Beth) Brown and Gaby, Heidi, Trent, Daci, Eli, Corrie and Avery Brown; Nina (Aaron) Richardson and Riley, Nora and Emma Richardson; Ira (Kayse) Brown and Johnie and Maggie Brown and Zeb Brown; brothers, Henry (Carla) Ross, David (Sherry) Ross; and sisters, Dot (Gary) Pearcy and Charlotte Ross.
Helen retired from Bill's in Chatom after years as store manager and then traveled opening new stores all over the southeast for several more years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Howardtown Baptist Church with Bros. Dean Brown, Ed Howard and Tell Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom and will lie in state for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Howardtown Baptist Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Josh Parnell, Joseph Parnell, Tell Brown, Ira Brown, Daniel Castelin and Riley Richardson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Richardson, Joel McKay, Steve Castelin, Dean Brown, Zeb Brown, Perry Dickey and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Alabama Children's Home or Howardtown Baptist Church.
