Henry Ray Bailey, 87, a native of Tibbie and a resident of Moreland, GA, passed away July 15, 2019 at a family residence in Tibbie. He was born March 22, 1932 to Hughey and Cora Mae Bailey in Chatom. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict in the 82nd Airborne Paratrooper division. He was a member of the W.N. Reynolds Masonic Lodge #900, Chalker Memorial Methodist Church, and had been employed at Scott Paper Company where his strong work ethic served him well. One of his favorite past times was playing the upright bass with various local bluegrass artists.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Matthew O’Neal and sister, Dorothy (Ernest) Brannan.
He is survived by his wife, Lou Etta Bailey; children, Karla (Bryan) Sewell, Ramona (Barry) Beech, Valerie (Wesley) Knapp, Paula Bailey, Morgan (Selina) Bailey; brothers, James (Sylvia) Bailey, Lemuel M. Knapp; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Chatom Town Cemetery with Tommy Fuller and the W.N. Reynolds Masonic Lodge #900 officiating and Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
