Herman Walter Boutwell, 93, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Jackson Health Care Facility surrounded by family. He was born in Laurel, MS on Sunday, January 29, 1928 to Walter Boutwell and Maggie Arnold Boutwell. A member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, he was a retired pipe fitter and welder with Ciba Geigy (now BASF). A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and all types of outdoor work including welding. A favorite hobby was building boats, often inside the house, required windows to be removed to move it outside. His family notes that in many activities there was "the right way, the wrong way, and the Herman way" of doing things, but he was definitely a family man whose memory will be treasured by those he loved, especially those he invited to share his Blue Bell ice cream.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Martha Lou Busby Nader, Janie Joiner Boutwell; son, William Walter Boutwell; grandson, Heath Rotch and sister, Reebe Arnold.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Walter Stacey (Sharon) Boutwell, Minnie (Donald) Barnett, Wanda Pezent, Billie (Tommy) Windham, Renee (Geary) Williams; close extended family member, Vic (Tina) Nader; twelve grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Drs. Ben Stubblefield and Stacey Boutwell officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Scott Boutwell, Stephen Boutwell, Daniel Hill, Ivan Pezent, Sawyer Rotch, Walt Rotch and Willie Williams.
Flowers are welcome or donations in his memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jackson, 214 College Ave., Jackson, AL 36545.
