Hiram Earnest Gunter, Sr, 86, of Jackson, passed away on August 8, 2024, at Jackson Medical Center. He was born on September 29, 1937, to his parents Lon Burnett, Sr. and Ruth Wimberly Gunter. He was a graduate of Jackson High School. Earnest served in the United States Army. Whilst serving in the Army, he discovered his passion for photography; Earnest enjoyed taking photographs of German architecture while serving there. Earnest was a long-time member of Jackson First Assembly of God. He was an avid hunter and fisher, who spent a lot of time farming in his younger years. While Earnest loved all of his family dearly, his boys were his pride and joy.
Preceded in death by his parents, his sister Delois McNeal, and his brothers Gene Gunter and Lon Burnett Gunter, Jr.
Survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra Kay Gunter; his sons; Hiram E. (Gayle) Gunter, Jr and Jason Gunter; and grandchildren, Gracie Ruth Gunter, Hiram Luke Gunter, and Addison Joy Gunter. Earnest is also survived by his sisters Celeste Weaver and Eleanor Broadhead, his brother Elliot Gunter, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Services will be held at Jackson First Assembly of God, Wednesday, August 14, 2024. The visitation will be at 10:00 am and the service will begin at 11:00 am with Kevin Lewis and Mark Dunn officiating the service. Interment will follow at Carlton Cemetery with E.C. Russell officiating.
Pallbearers will be Leonard McHaney, Luke Gunter, Layton Mixon, Josh Petty, John Broadhead, Matt Gunter, Jimmy Gunter, Austin Anderson and Chad Stead.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Traditions Hospice Team.
