James Edward Sims, 83, of Coffeeville, passed away February 28, 2017 at Jackson Healthcare Facility. He was born June 2, 1933 to Claude F. Sims and Eva Mae Truett Sims. A member of Center Point Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Sons of the Confederacy and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also an avid turkey hunter and had retired from James River Corp. in Pennington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Marie Bedwell Sims; children, Kenny (Seleta) Sims, Gloria (Arlis) Hicks; sister, Betty Laura (Ernest) Parden; grandchildren, Drew Hicks, Amy Hicks, Lance Sims, Kendra Sims and great-grandchildren, Braxton Sims and Samantha Ramsey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with the Rev. William Gibbons officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Center Point Baptist Church in Coffeeville with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
