James Harold White, Sr., 83, of Jackson, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020 in Jackson. He was born October 28, 1936 in Salitpa to Reginald Young White and Barbara Deas White. An active member of River Hill Baptist Church in the Salitpa community, he was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had retired with 27 years of service with Clarke-Mobile Counties Gas Company, but he had also been employed as a dump truck driver with the Clarke County Commission and was a skilled carpenter. An avid hunter and water skier, he also enjoyed roller skating, yard work, playing practical jokes and spending time with his family and friends. He was also a founding member of the Jackson Rescue Squad.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Clara Jeanette Roberts White.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Walker White; sons, James Harold “Jim” (Crystal) White, Jr., Jason Roberts (Christina) White; grandchildren, Colton Samuel White, Alex Roberts White, Ariel Gibbs, Karen Parnell; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at River Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Wilton Bennett, Leon Parnell and Brian Dukes officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson and again for an hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Church. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Brett Atchison, Matthew Bullock, Joe Fleming, Chris Harwell, Joshua Gibbs and Justin Gibbs.
Honorary pallbearers will be Blaine Champion, Mac Henley, Len Roberts, Elbert Middleton, Cecil Johnson, Cecil Beck, Bobby Prichard and Gene Prichard.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to River Hill Baptist Church or The Boy Scout Troop 76 of Thomasville.
