Janice Carpenter

Janice James Carpenter, 73, of Chatom, passed away on January 5, 2023. She was born July 29, 1949, to Clifton Bernard and Louise Wiggins James. Mrs. Carpenter reared her family in Grove Hill and later moved to Chatom where her and her husband Russell lived. She worked as a waitress at several local restaurants, where she loved visiting and taking care of her customers. Janice loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survived by her husband Russell Carpenter, sons James Weaver Jr., Roy (Katie) Williams, daughter Darlene (Michael) Walker, grandchildren Heather Weaver, Anthony Furr, Allison Furr, Austin Furr, Presley Walker, and Hannah Walker. Her siblings William James and Joan Richburg, nieces, and nephews Jessie (Nick) Crisswell, Jenny (Bobby) Porter, Sarah (Scotty) Beddingfield, Rusty Richburg, Donald Garland, Bobby Garland, Harold David Carpenter, also many extended family members and loving friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorothy (Dot) Smith
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Garland, Bobby Garland, Harold David Carpenter, William James, Michael Walker, and Roy Williams.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Spring Bank Church Cemetery in Chatom, AL. Bro. William Dortch will be officiating and Lathan Funeral Home conducting. Online condolences may be shared at www.lathanfuneralhome.com
