Jerry Harlon Bennett, 78 of Grove Hill, passed away December 4, 2018 at Azalea Gardens Nursing Home in Mobile. He was born August 17, 1940 in Cullman to Rev. Bufus and Maydell Thompson Bennett. A Mason and veteran of the U.S. Army, he had been employed as a forester with Alabama Heading Company, now Soterra. He was also a member and a deacon at Union Baptist Church and a founding member of the Helwestern Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lois Rebecca Bennett.
He is survived by his daughters, Delila (J.A.) Gibson, Lisa (Christopher E.) Gates; grandchildren, Angie (Chris Todd) Gibson, Shane (Alison) Gibson, Nikki (Dre Kennedy) Bennett, Jasmine (Terry Kiker) Denton; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Gibson, Trevor Gibson; siblings, Raymond (Nanette) Bennett and Brenda Bennett Salter and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Union Baptist Church in Grove Hill with the Rev. Howard Gaston officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Padgett, Rex Padgett, Fred Champion, George Clark, Ray Clark and Ralph Armistead.
