Jessica Marie Turner was born into this world a miracle on November 21, 1989. We were told she would not live as she was taken to surgery at two hours old, but she survived! We were told she would never walk, but she did! Jessica overcame so many obstacles in her first 18 years, as she had over 20 surgeries and many lengthy hospital stays before she graduated Jackson High School in 2008. She was so strong and endured more than most could bear. After high school she began a different battle: addiction. This darkness was too powerful; it ate and consumed too much. Though Jessica did well at times, even graduating from and working for a year-long rehabilitation program in Tennessee, addiction turned her into someone we know she did not want to be. As it has for so many, addiction stole a beloved part of our family from us.
Jessica lost her battle on January 8, 2024. Due to the lifesaving efforts of Sergeant Shawn Scott of the Jackson Police Department, local EMS, and staff at Jackson Medical Center, we were able to respect her wishes as a registered organ donor. She took her last trip to the operating room during her “Honor Walk” on January 10, 2024, and has since played a part in saving three other lives. Jessica is now looking at the face of Jesus and no longer having to endure the ugliness in this world: no more pain or hurt, no more rejection or struggling to fit in, no more addiction. She has now been made perfect. Jessica, your memory will be forever cherished, and we will always love you. Until we see you again in Heaven, we will remember your beautiful smile and contagious laugh, your kind and loving spirit (especially for your pets), and how you filled the lives of those around you with joy, especially your grandmother who affectionally referred to you as “the apple of my eye”.
Jessica is survived by her mother, Jennifer (Gerald) Overstreet; brother, Will (Morgan) Turner and sister, Beth Ann Overstreet; grandparents, Norvelle and Diane Jones; aunts, Jamie Jones and Julie (Daryl) Beck; nieces, Jaycee Lynn Turner and Josie Marie Turner; cousins, Julianna and Kolby Marks; numerous other relatives and friends.
A private funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. on January 14, 2024, at the graveside in Jones-Beech Cemetery with her immediate family members. Pallbearers were Will Turner, Gerald Overstreet, Daryl Beck, and Kolby Marks.
